Pradeepan was founded in 1995 by local social youth partners as a voluntary, non-profit, nongovernmental organization and is registered under M.P. Society Act 1973. It is headquartered in
Betul district.
The founder's birthplace is Borgaon village and home district is Betul. When he was about 3-4 years old, his father died and his widowed mother raised him by doing physical labour in poverty and financial constraints. At that time the village environment was full of casteism, untouchability and discrimination. Being from the Dalit community, he completed his studies till matriculation by staying in a hostel in very struggling circumstances and completed his graduation from private school. Since tribal communities live on both sides of his birthplace village, he is well aware of the poverty and social conditions of the tribal community since childhood. The head of the organization, Rekha, worked for 14 years from 1981 to 1994 in collaboration with reputed organizations working in the social sector in different states of India, 'Lahar' Surguja (Chhattisgarh), 'PIDIT' New Delhi, 'Prerna Bharti' Madhupur Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Shahdol (MP) on the issues of tribal, women and children's rights and development. Founder Rekha Gujre worked in the field of social and rural development for 14 years and participated in many big and small seminars, workshops, trainings and meetings, as a result of which she got acquainted with the heads of large NGOs and some donor agencies across India. Due to this, Pradeepan did not have to work very hard for small projects/grants and in 1995 she started getting Mind Fellowship from 'Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra' Luck now in the name of the founder. After this, due to the tireless efforts, hard work, sensitivity towards the deprived, affinity and experience-dedication of Rekha Gujre (Secretary and Founder), the work of the organization is going on continuously, which is as follows? The head of the organization Rekha Gujre is known as the Women organizer (Mahila Sanchalika) of the selected organization of Madhya Pradesh for her contribution on women, children's human rights and women's issues. And in Pradeepan, she has created a separate place and identity for working on the rights of women and children in her home district Betul. Pradeepan was established in the year 1995 in Betul district at a time when the condition of tribal was seen as a huge gap and wall in the education, health and malnutrition of women and children, infant mortality and maternal mortality rate, exploitation and access of government schemes to the poor. Innovative initiatives to integrate climate resilience and environmental protection as a main source of livelihood for the poor, underprivileged and tribal people have been the endeavour of the founder since 1998. Gender equality and climate justice are embedded in all our work. The organization Betul (MP) has been continuously working on the rights of women and girls, protection and safety from violence and gender equality with feminist approach and ideology since its registration in the year 1995, so that human rights can be protected and gender equality can be established.
